Sir Dr. Kensington Adebutu Calls for Yoruba Unity at 90th Birthday Breakfast Meeting

In a moving address marking his 90th birthday, Sir Dr. Kensington Adebukunola Adebutu CFR, Odole-Oodua of The Source, has called for renewed unity and brotherhood between two of Yorubaland’s most revered thrones — the Ooni of Ife and the Alaafin of Oyo.

Speaking during his 90th Birthday Breakfast Meeting, Sir Adebutu described the gathering as a divinely inspired opportunity to honour the “two most revered royal pillars of the Yoruba civilization.” His message, titled “Message of Unity to Our Imperial Majesties: The Ooni of Ife and The Alaafin of Oyo,” emphasized the shared heritage and destiny that bind the two thrones as custodians of Yoruba identity and continuity.

“Both of your Imperial Majesties sit upon thrones that are not merely seats of tradition, but symbols of the very soul, embodiment, and continuity of the Yoruba Nation,” Adebutu stated. “Though history has whispered of rivalry between Ife and Oyo, the truth remains that both are branches of the same sacred root — Oduduwa.”

He urged both monarchs to continue leading with unity and wisdom, declaring that the harmony of Ife and Oyo would resonate across Yorubaland and beyond, rekindling the essence of a united Oodua family.

“If the Ooni and the Alaafin stand shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart, the Yoruba nation will again rise in glory,” he affirmed. “Let us silence the echoes of discord and awaken the spirit of unity, progress, and leadership that our ancestors bequeathed us.”

Reflecting on his nine decades of life and service, Sir Adebutu expressed his hope that the moment would “sow the seed of everlasting brotherhood” between the two royal institutions, symbolizing a new dawn of dignity, peace, and prosperity for the Yoruba race and the entire Black world.

He concluded with a solemn prayer:

“May Ife and Oyo be one. May Oodua be one. May Nigeria be great. May Africa rise.”
