OYO ÌṢẸ̀ṢE ASSOCIATION DECLARES UNWAVERING LOYALTY TO ALAAFIN, WARNS AGAINST CULTURAL DIVISION

Association dismisses claims of abandonment, urges media to verify reports and calls for respect for Yoruba traditional institutions.

The Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Religion Association, Oyo Alaafin, has publicly reaffirmed its unwavering loyalty to the Alaafin’s throne, rejecting claims circulating on social media that the Iṣẹ̀ṣẹ̀ community and Ṣàngó worshippers in Oyo have failed to support His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, Iku Baba Yeye, the Alaafin of Oyo.

The association, in a press statement, described the claims as misleading and inconsistent with its longstanding commitment to the Alaafin’s traditional institution.

It declared that its loyalty did not begin with the emergence of the present Alaafin but is rooted in the history, spiritual heritage and ancestral traditions of Oyo Kingdom.

‘Our Loyalty Is Historical and Unwavering’

The association maintained that the Alaafin’s throne occupies an important place in its understanding of Oyo’s historical and spiritual heritage.

It emphasised that genuine loyalty to a traditional institution goes beyond online declarations and social media confrontations. According to the association, such commitment should be reflected in responsible conduct, cultural preservation, peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement.

The group warned against turning religious or cultural disagreements into platforms for insulting traditional rulers or creating divisions within Yorubaland.

Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Must Not Become a Tool for Disrespect

Addressing concerns over online publications allegedly attacking the Alaafin’s throne, the association said individuals must not use the name of Ìṣẹ̀ṣe religion to justify disrespect towards traditional rulers or misrepresent the position of the Oyo Ìṣẹ̀ṣe community.

It stressed the importance of distinguishing personal opinions from the official position of a recognised religious or cultural association.

The group also called for maturity, discipline and mutual respect in discussions involving Yoruba traditional institutions, maintaining that cultural differences should be addressed through peaceful and lawful means.

Media Houses Urged to Verify Allegations

The association issued a direct appeal to journalists, bloggers, publishers and online news platforms to verify claims before publication.

It urged media organisations to consult relevant authorities and associations rather than present the statements or actions of individuals as the position of an entire religious community.

It also called on influencers, politicians, cultural advocates and members of the public to reject inflammatory narratives and promote dialogue capable of strengthening unity among Yoruba communities.

‘Let Us Protect Our Heritage’

Reiterating its commitment to Ìṣẹ̀ṣe religion, Yoruba cultural heritage and the dignity of the Alaafin’s throne, the association urged the public to disregard unverified allegations that the Oyo Ìṣẹ̀ṣe community and Ṣàngó worshippers had abandoned their traditional responsibilities.

Its closing message was an appeal for peace, unity and respect for established cultural institutions.
